a5c7b9f00b Detroit cop Axel Foley is watching the news on TV when the reporter tells a story that Axel&#39;s friend, Beverly Hills police Captain Andrew Bogomil, has been shot by a tall woman. Axel heads out to Beverly Hills to visit Bogomil in the hospital, and this is where Axel is reunited with Bogomil&#39;s daughter Jan Bogomil. Axel is also reunited with Detective Billy Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart. Billy and Taggart decide to let Axel help them find the woman who tried to kill Bogomil, even though abusive police chief Harold Lutz has been deliberately trying to find a reason to fire Billy and Taggart. Axel, Billy, and Taggart soon discover that the alphabet robberies, a series of robberies that have been going on in the area, are masterminded by weapons kingpin Maxwell Dent, and Dent had sent his fiancee Karla Fry to try to kill Bogomil because Bogomil had been after Dent. With this information, Axel, Billy, and Taggart try to find Dent and Karla. A series of strange robberies brings Axel Foley back to Beverly Hills to help his two fellow cops solve the case. All the familiar faces of the first film are back… In the second installment to the highly successful &quot;Beverly Hills Cop&quot; trilogy, we find Axel Foley(Eddie Murphy) returning once again to Beverly Hills to solve crime. This time Axel is trying to solve the shooting of Captain Bogomil(Ronny Cox). As Axel digs deeper, he discovers that Bogomil had been on the trail of a group of bank robbers, which are headed by Maxwell Dent(Jurgen Prochnow), who just so happens to own an exquisite Beverly Hills gun club. So Axel reunites with old buddies Billy Rosewood(Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart(John Ashton) to go and solve the crime.<br/><br/>Being that this is the second film in the trilogy, one would expect &quot;Beverly Hills Cop II&quot; to either be a step up or a step down from the first film. &quot;Beverly Hills Cop II&quot; tries to be stylish but can&#39;t even though it&#39;s in the hands of Tony Scott, director of 1986&#39;s &quot;Top Gun&quot;. The action here is a lot wilder too, but after a while it starts to get pointless, especially in the ending shoot-out. Of course, Eddie Murphy saves this film from being another average action-comedy, which is good. So when you watch this film, try to be fair in judging in it.<br/><br/>I give &quot;Beverly Hills Cop II&quot; an 8/10. If the first &#39;Cop&#39; film was incoherent and unstable, this one completely misunderstands the elements that made the original so charming. It&#39;s not that the attitude is darker, it&#39;s that it&#39;s trying to be totally focused. The characters get makeovers and the plot doesn&#39;t take any new turns.<br/><br/>I can compare this to the &#39;Die Hard&#39; movies because,with those, the &quot;revolutionary&quot; parts made the originals unique whether fish-out-of-water or absurd acting. The second installments suffer from too much glitz and hype, not enough material to work with.<br/><br/>This coming from the director of &#39;Top Gun&#39; &amp; &#39;Crimson Tide&#39;, I&#39;m not surprised.<br/><br/>Final Analysis = = Cinematic Dud Cop II doesn't sizzle like the original. It plays like a movie made by the numbers, an excuse to trot out Murphy and let him reprise the moves that earned the first Cop $350 million and statusthe top-grossing comedy in film history.
